baconbaconbacon!

In spirit of this mid-February love festival I feel compelled to write a little ode to my first love... bacon.

Oh, Bacon. You're so cute with your red and white stripes, frying away in my oversized pan. Your grease nearly drowns you, but I come to the rescue with my fork, flipping you from side to side so you're not too saturated by your own liquidy fat. I could eat you with anything. On sandwiches, pizza, dipped in syrup, on salads, in cereal, with potatoes and cheese. Mostly you're just delicious by yourself. So crunchy, so meaty. I can not live without you, bacon. I know you're not great for my cholesterol levels, but you're worth every clogged artery. Will you be my valentine, sir bacon?

I also love my kitty, drew, and the puppy (who isn't a puppy at all anymore). I also love that the kitty and puppy have a cute love-hate relationship with each other. I love my far away friends and family. I am terribly homesick.

So, since we're not too big on super commercialized Valentine's Day shin-digs, Drew and I spent a leisurely morning watching a Paul Simon DVD from his 1989?-ish live concert in Central Park wishing we had a time machine and could be transported there. Drew made me a yummy brunch of bacon!! (we both have a heavy obsession with that pork product- cue the heart attacks in 30 years, yikes!), potatoes w/ cheese, mushrooms, squash, and red peppers all cooked to perfection, and an egg in-the-heart-shaped-hole. Wonderful. We drank beers and watched more music DVDs and relaxed. I made drew a construction paper card and he got me a cute card and one red rose which is still alive and kicking in our vase on the fridge. The rest of the weekend was rather unproductive and lazy. We watched the Olympics and made fantastic dinners of fish and asparagus Friday and Saturday nights. Next weekend though, assuming we can find something to do with the dog and cat, we're planning a trip to Lawrence to see Galactic and Kansas City, MO to see Trey Anastasio (from Phish). It'll be nice to get out and doooooo something together. Yay!
