I'm coming home!!!! Yay! I don't think I've ever been so excited. So many good things that I want to taste, smell, see, hear, love. Can Not Wait. Get ready Athens- May 14-17 mama's comin' home!
Sure wish I had some purty pictures so show you from spring in Kansas. It so sooooo beautiful out here! It was like, Easter Sunday that almost all the trees just opened up... they couldn't hold in their beauty any longer and they just had so display it for us! I'm so thankful. Looking at all the trees and flowers and bushes blooming just makes me thankful to be alive and able to see such wonderful sights. The redbuds are red, the Bradford pears are so delicately cream colored, and the daffodils are so perky and yellow. I'm lucky to be born in the spring. Coming into the world when everything is returning to life feels like the perfect time to be born and makes me feel a little more connected to this season than all the others. I can feel myself coming back to life as well... waking up and being happy!
The pops, brother, and I had a really nice Easter just hanging out... eating good food, drinking good beer. I'm so thankful they were able to check out Hutchinson and help boost my mood. Hutch can be such a great place! Lots of wheels spinning and ideas churning. I'll keep you posted on them.
We got most of our garden area tilled up and our seeds started in little flats. I know we're a little late, but better late than early. There is still a slight chance of frost, so better to be safe than sorry. I Can Not Wait for that moment when we can harvest corn, peppers, cucumbers, tomatoes!!!!!!, and squash. Oh lord that farming gene runs deep. I feel so connected to the growth and production of food, even though I'm still learning as I go.
Last night, Drew and I hung out with some former Athen-ites. We were so thrilled to have people of like mind to play with! Granted, they're a little older than us and plus two (adorable) kids named Beatrix and Henry. Kate and Oliver are fantastic. They live in an adorable older house (think 5 points house) and are wonderful entertainers. They are of an older Athens generation than we are.... like, old townies who love Pylon and Elf Power. Kate works in Economic Development at the Chamber of Commerce and has another friend out here who ALSO is from Athens. The friend is trying to get a community garden started up and I want to help! So many great conversations and ideas were bounced around last night and I could NOT have been more hopeful and content. We're planning on having a "Southern Food Night" in the coming weekends to celebrate our Southern heritage with lots of fatty, mayonaise based foods. There was talk of chickens and goats and local, fresh produce. It was refreshing, to say the least. Our plan was only to stay for an hour or so, but we didn't end up leaving until 3 am. Oops.
Goals for the week.... take more pictures (get film camera fixed), read another book, drink a PBR and watch the sunset, reflect on the positive aspects of the day, stay hopeful for the future. Love.
